Our founder

Dr. Segundo Wong Mayorga

Ecuadorian by birth, he was the mentalizer of the organization and founder of Reybanpac, Rey Banano del Pacífico C.L., a flagship company of the corporate group. His parents were Mr. Moisés Wong, of Chinese origin, and Mrs. Lastenia Victoria Mayorga, Ecuadorian.

Dr. Wong married Mrs. Norma Naranjo Viera, having three children: Vicente, Rafael and Gisella Wong Naranjo, who worked with him in various companies.

Dr. Wong married Mrs. Norma Naranjo Viera, having three children: Vicente, Rafael and Gisella Wong Naranjo, who worked with him in various companies.

He started in agriculture in 1956, delivering bananas to export companies. He then exported directly in partnership with other businessmen and, later, founded Rey Banano del Pacífico C.A. in 1977, becoming independent and establishing itself in the export of bananas.

Dr. Segundo Wong Mayorga actively participated in the Ecuadorian business sector. For his contribution to the country and for being a pioneer in the opening of non-traditional markets for Ecuadorian bananas, he became worthy of THE DISTINCTION OF GRAND COMMANDER OF THE NATIONAL ORDER OF MERIT.

Throughout his professional life he earned
the following distinctions:

  • The Entrepreneurial and Humanitarian Character Recognition Award from the El Oro Province Attorneys Association.
  • The Quevedo Canton Best Cattle Raiser and Banana Exporter, Award from the Cantonal Agricultural Centre.
  • 1984 Man of the Year Award from the Imagen Advertising Corporation.
  • International Trophy for Qualityawarded by the Editorial Office from Spain.
  • Decoration for Agricultural Merit,conferred by the Chamber of Agriculture of the II Zone.
  • Recognition for Merit, Trade and Agricultural Development, granted by the Cantonal Agricultural Center of Pasaje.
  • Decoration of the Armenian Supreme Soviet and its Council of Ministers.
  • 1990 Man of the Year,conferred by the Guayaquil Journalists Association.
  • Decoration for Entrepreneurial Merit,awarded by the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce.
  • Decoration for Labor Merit, conferred by the Ministry of Labor and Human Resources on July 3, 1998.
  • Awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, granted by the Technical University of Machala in April 1998.
  • Decoration for Agricultural Merit,conferred by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
